JIMMY BECOMES YOUNGEST CHAMP

Jimmy Robertson, 13, from Bexhill became the youngest ever winner of a Frank Sandell 'Classic' tournament when he won the South Coast Classic, the final singles event of the £2500, 1999 Peradon Grand Prix Series. Robertson took his second singles title of the year 2-0 by beating Eastbourne's Matthew Barnes, 18,  who reached all six singles finals of the season, winning four and losing the other two to Robertson.

The South Coast Classic is the longest running event of the Frank Sandell Grand Prix Series and is the most prestigious of the six titles available. It is sponsored by the host club, The New Central Billiard Hall and the perpetual trophy now reads like a who's who of some of the best players in Southern England over the last 17 years. Robertson's name will only improve the quality of this list.

In the semi-finals Barnes had a 2-1 victory over Scott Miller, 15, who earlier in the month had beaten professional Grand Prix semi-finalist Allistair Carter 3-0. Millers progression to the semi-finals saw him require breaks of 106 and 52 to overcome Worthing's Russell March 2-1.

Robertson reached the final with a 2-0 victory over Blane Torode, 13. This was by far Torode's best singles performance and together with Robertson will be defending the Peradon Doubles Championship on the 21st November.

The junior handicap section saw Worthing's Chi Keung Tsang, 8, reach his second final in a row against club mate and 1998 Handicap Grand Prix Champion Billy Rushton, 10. Rushton, who beat Tsang's brother Chi Wah in the semis made it a double by taking the final on the black. The senior handicap was won by Lancing's Jamie Lawrence, 14, in his first final against East Grinstead's Kevin Ward, 14, appearing in his third final, but first at senior level.
