20th FRANK SANDELL GRAND PRIX
SERIES ANNOUNCED

The Roundstone Car Centre of Angmering, West Sussex will this year be the head sponsors of Worthing based Frank Sandell Snooker's junior tournament series. The Roundstone Car Centre Grand Prix Series 2001 will consist of nine events for players between the ages of seven and eighteen predominantly drawn from the Frank Sandell Coaching Schools which are spread along the South Coast. The series is fully sponsored and carries trophies and prizes worth a total of around £2,500.

We are delighted to welcome three new sponsors this year - Hazel Read, who has been an avid supporter of the series since her grandson began competing a few years ago, Grate Fireplaces of Portslade who are sponsoring the second singles event of the season and The Hunters Inn of Lavant who are sponsoring all the Performance and Breaks Awards.

The series opens as usual at the Triangle club in Chichester with the Roundstone Car Centre Team Event. Once again there will be 96 players divided into 24, four man teams consisting of the more experienced players from the various Frank Sandell Coaching Schools.

The singles tournaments run between April and October with the tournaments spread evenly between Worthing's New Central Club and Chichester's Triangle. The six tournaments are sponsored by local companies, businesses and individuals. As well as those mentioned above, the series receives continued support from CGS (Brighton) Ltd, The Mandarin of Worthing and Marsh Labels Ltd of Southwick.

The out and out favourite to take the overall title this year is the runner-up from the last two seasons - Bexhill's Jimmy Robertson. Reigning champion Scott Miller of Brighton is now too old to take part. With the winner of every event last season now out of the way, Robertson - who reached the final of the five tournaments he entered last year - will face many new faces competing to fill the gap left at the top of the rankings.

Following the singles events the Peradon Doubles Championship in November sees the presentations to the major winners of the series including awards to the best performer of the year relative to their ability, the newcomer of the year award and the prestigious G. F. Sandell Memorial trophy for the Clubman of the year which goes to the member whose overall contribution to the coaching schools and tournaments best reflects the coaching school motto of Friendship, Sportsmanship and Skill.

The series ends in December with the Christmas Family Match at the New Central Club where the more junior players team up with an adult relative to play a doubles competition with a huge number of prizes and trophies.

The Frank Sandell Coaching Schools and Grand Prix Series are acknowledged as the largest in the UK with each tournament having at least 100 entrants and the coaching school seeing around 150 members each week.
