DEW AND LLOYD ARE 2001 ROUNDSTONE CAR CENTRE GRAND PRIX CHAMPIONS

Sixteen year old James Dew of East Grinstead and Joe Lloyd, 15, of Chichester finished on top of the rankings as another season of the Frank Sandell Grand Prix Series drew to a close.

The main series, sponsored by the Roundstone Car Centre of Angmering, West Sussex, was the most open for many season's and with two event victories, two semi-finals, a quarter-final and a last 16 placing, Dew took the series with a total of 125 ranking points, 52 frames won and just 16 lost. Dew finished fifteen points clear of Chichester's Matthew Stadius, 16, who won one event and lost in the final of another to finish on 110 points.

Along with the title, Dew received the Bari Burnley perpetual trophy and a £100 bonus to add to the £130 he had already picked up during the year.

Two of the first three events had been won by Bexhill fifteen-year-old Jimmy Robertson without dropping a frame, however other commitments prevented him playing in the remaining tournaments. Fifth placed Matthew Redfern, 18, of Southbourne won the other event.

Third place went to Chichester's David Dunn, 15 in his first full season and another newcomer, fourteen-year-old Richard Kinnard of East Grinstead, finished fourth.

The Handicap Grand Prix series was a much tighter affair, ending in a tie for the title. Worthing's James Kipping, 13, who reached two finals, winning one, and two quarter-finals finished level on 45 points with Chichester's Joe Lloyd, 15. Lloyd had reached two finals, a semi-final and a quarter-final during the season.

The series was settled in a one-frame play-off with Kipping receiving a 14 point start and a tense frame was settled when Lloyd took the title, the John Chapman perpetual trophy and the £50 bonus by sinking the black.

The highest break of the series was lower than in recent seasons - 70 by Jimmy Robertson - but the Junior highest break was an exceptional 65 by seven year old Liam Harper.

The six ranking tournaments featured 135 different players and a total of 1723 frames of competitive snooker were completed.
