LAMBERT TAKES OPENING EVENT OF 2002 GRAND PRIX SERIES

Brighton's Curtis Lambert won the opening event of the 2002 Frank Sandell Snooker Grand Prix series at Worthing's New Central Club. Lambert defeated Chichester's Matthew Stadius 2-0 in the final of the Kevin Bushby Memorial Championship. A collection was made on the day, and will be ongoing throughout the series for the Chestnut Tree House children's hospice in Worthing.

JIMMY ROBERTSON WINS PONTINS UNDER 19's

Bexhill's Jimmy Robertson, 15, has added another title to his haul by winning the Pontins UK U19 championship, just a few months after remaining unbeaten in the Home Nations Championships where he represented England juniors and making his first maximum break.

AND IF YOU THOUGHT THAT WAS GOOD….

Rye's Liam Harper, aged 7 years and 9 months made his first match-play century in a recent Pro-Am. Harper made a break of 105 to add to his highest practise break of 133. Not bad for seven years old…..

COACHING SCHOOL WELL REPRESENTED IN COUNTY FINALS

This  year's West Sussex Billiards and Snooker Association championships again saw excellent performances from past and current coaching school member's.

The U21 championship was won for the fourth, and what will be his final time, by Crawley's David Morgan 3-1. Morgan defeated East Grinstead's Pritesh Patel for the second year running.

The individual snooker championship was a tight affair with defending champion Paul Norris mounting a comeback to defeat former champion and former coaching school member Steve Crowley 5-4.

The billiards championship was won by coaching school coach Worthing's Richard Sandell 563-411 against fellow county team member Colin Nicholson. Sandell also won the handicap billiards event despite playing off the lowest handicap. Final score was 300-232 against another West Sussex team member - Maurice Wickens.

The handicap snooker event was won by current coaching school member Michael Collier who beat another former member, Adam Williams, 3-1.

Other former members involved on finals day were Jamie Moreland who reached the final of the doubles event with partner Michael Coudray before losing 3-2 to Nicholson and Martin Williams, and Elliot Bradley and Blane Torode who along with Paul Wensley reached the final of the triples event before losing in a sudden death decider 4-3.
